Predefined data classes
IBM Knowledge Catalog provides over 150 predefined data classes in the [uncategorized] category. Data classes help to describe the domain of the data values present within a column in a structured data asset. Data classes are assigned when profiling a data asset and shown on the Profile page in a catalog or project, or in metadata enrichment results.
IBM Knowledge Catalog provides a predefined set of data classes. Some data classes are categorized into groups, for example:
- If you select Date, it also includes Date of Birth.
- If you select Driver's License, it also includes all driver licenses listed below.
Structured data that has assigned data classes can be masked. For structured data, you can also control access to the asset based on the assigned data class.
During profiling, data classes are assigned based on column name (scope column) or on column data (scope value) depending on the data class definition.
To view the scope and matching criteria for a specific data class, click its name in the following table.
